Many students are a-buzz at the news that our very own Ms. Degenhardt was featured in an article published in the National periodical, "Teaching Music Magazine." Music teachers belonging to the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) receive this monthly journal to expand on their knowledge and understanding of the profession. It seems they chose our teacher because she was invited to present a lecture at the organization's National Conference in Nashville, TN this month. The presentation will be on National Core Standards in Music Education, and how to incorporate Common Core Standards into an instructor's already existing lessons. There is even a picture of Ms. D. surrounded by her many personal instruments. A similar picture can be found on this website's homepage!

Here is a young man, still in his Tigger One-zee jamming on his guitar. Whatever instrument you've chosen as your favorite, you can play with the same passion and expression so long as you're willing to put in the time to cultivate your talents.
Un 'bluesman' de 10 años toca la guitarra como B.B. King Posted by Noticias MVS on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 Ask your kids, "What did you record in music class this week?" They will tell you two things. The one that is more important is a tradition carried out over at least a decade here at Merrimac and that is our Patriotic Song unit. Every grade level learns a vocally age-appropriate song which reflects pride in our country. Through these songs we learn about our history, the language (English) as it was spoken back then, and how to apply vocal techniques so we may sing it to the best of our abilities. It's amazing what we can accomplish in the matter of a week or two. Let your little ones show off what they've learned, maybe not this week, but next week or the one after for sure!
